about
I was inspired to write this song by the poem "Leda and the Swan". The song appeared to me in its entirety as I was on a walk on my farm .
lyrics
I took a summers walk at night, through the Queen Annes Lace, and forgotten hay that lines the field. And, I went on, and on, and on, into the trees with the branches full of green and tender leaves. From many a mile I had to rest awhile, there, beside a horning bush. As I slept, a stag came near, and watched my heart beating quiet in my chest. All he saw was his to have, when he knelt, his velvet antlers trembled and they shook, it just goes on, and on, and on beneath a starless sky with a simple crescent moon. When the snows came falling then, his trail was clear, he couldn't stop to linger or to eat, the neighbors dogs ran on, and on, and on and he was torn apart for love of me. I have asked to be where no storms come near, out of the swinging of the sea. But I promise I will wait for you if you will promise that you will wait for me.
